In occasione della sua mostra personale MEA CULPA l’artista Santiago Sierra ha realizzato per il PAC una nuova performance intitolata 10€ (2017).
Centinaia di persone richiamate da volantini e dal passaparola sono giunte al PAC, stando in coda per ore, per ricevere un pagamento di 10€. La banconota è stata distribuita alle prime 1000 persone che si sono presentate.
Le performance ideate da Santiago Sierra sfruttano spesso gli emarginati che vi figurano per svolgere mansioni inutili: una critica impietosa alle condizioni sociopolitiche del nostro tempo. Messaggero della cupa verità del nostro tempo, Sierra è spesso stigmatizzato per le sue performance intense ed ambigue. Eppure il loro linguaggio visivo, il simbolismo complesso ed energico, il loro essere calate nella realtà delle persone conferisce loro un raro impatto emozionale.
On the occasion of his solo exhibition MEA CULPA the artist Santiago Sierra has realized for the PAC a new performance entitled 10€ (2017).
Hundreds of people called by flyers and word of mouth, came to the PAC, standing in line for hours, to receive a payment of 10€. The bill was distributed to the first 1000 people who showed up.
The performances created by Santiago Sierra often take advantage of the marginalized people who appear there to perform useless tasks: a pitiless criticism of the socio-political conditions of our time. As the bearer of the dark truth of our time, Sierra is often stigmatised for his intense and ambiguous performances. Nevertheless, their visual language, their complex and energetic symbolism and the fact that they are plunged into the reality of people give them a rare emotional impact.
